What Can You Store in License Store?

License Store is not only a place for serial numbers. A software license often comes with several small details that only become important when you need to reinstall an app, renew a license, or prove a purchase later.

An entry in License Store can keep those details together.

License Details

The main part of a record is the license itself.

You can store:

  • a license key or serial number
  • a license file
  • the license holder name
  • the e-mail address used for the purchase
  • the number of activations, if the vendor gives you one
  • an activation link, when the app supports one

License Store supports both key-based licenses and file-based licenses. If an app gives you a text key, use the key field. If it gives you a separate license file, choose the license file type and attach the file there.

App Information

Each entry can also include basic app information:

  • app name
  • version
  • bundle identifier
  • app icon

When you import an installed app, License Store can fill in some of this automatically from the app bundle.

Websites and Download Links

A license record is more useful when it also knows where the app came from.

You can add:

  • the vendor website
  • a direct download link
  • notes about where to get updates

In Preview mode, those links are available from the toolbar, so you do not have to search for the vendor page again.

Expiration Dates

Some licenses expire completely. Others keep working, but only include updates until a certain date.

License Store can track both cases. When you add an expiration date, you can choose whether it applies to:

  • the entire license
  • updates only

That helps the app show a more useful status later.

Attachments

Many software purchases include files you may want to keep:

  • invoices
  • receipts
  • PDF order confirmations
  • license files
  • support documents
  • screenshots with purchase details

You can attach those files to the app entry instead of keeping them in a separate folder.

In Edit mode, attachments appear as part of the app record. This is where you add files, rename them inside License Store, or clean up documents that no longer belong with the entry.

Attachments in Edit mode

In Preview mode, attachments stay close to the license details, so you can open them when you need the invoice, receipt, or license file.

Attachments in Preview mode

Attachments can be opened, previewed with Quick Look, saved back to disk, or deleted from the entry when you no longer need them there.

Notes

Use notes for anything that does not fit into a dedicated field. This can include details about the license, but also a short reminder of what the app is and what you use it for.

For example:

  • renewal information
  • upgrade rules
  • where the license was bought
  • what the app does
  • why you bought it
  • which edition or variant of the app you bought
  • information about activations
  • installation or migration notes
  • support or account details that are not passwords

Notes are useful for small pieces of context you may forget later.

Add What You Need

You do not have to fill every field.

For some apps, a license key and e-mail address may be enough. For others, it makes sense to add the invoice, download link, expiration date, and a few notes.

Add the details you would want to have ready when installing the app again, checking an update, or looking up the purchase later.
