Using License Expiration Reminders

Some licenses are permanent. Others expire, renew every year, or include updates only until a certain date.

License Store can track those dates in the app record and remind you before they need attention.

Add an Expiration Date

Select an app and switch to Edit mode.

In the license details, turn on expiration and choose the date.

You can also choose what the date means:

• Entire License means the license itself expires.
• Updates Only means the app may keep working, but updates are only included until that date.

This distinction matters because License Store can describe the status differently. An expired license is not the same as an app that still works but no longer includes updates.

Enable Reminders

Open License Store → Settings... and go to Reminders.

Turn on expiration reminders. macOS may ask for notification permission the first time you do this.

If notifications are disabled for License Store in System Settings, allow them there first, then return to License Store.

License Store keeps scheduled reminders in sync with your library. If you change an expiration date, adjust reminder settings, or turn reminders off, the notifications are updated automatically.

Choose When to Be Reminded

License Store can remind you:

• 1 day before
• 7 days before
• 14 days before
• 30 days before

You can also choose the time of day. License Store uses 9:00 by default.

Use a shorter lead time for licenses you can renew quickly. Use 30 days when you may need an invoice, approval, budget decision, or time to check whether you still need the app.

Where Expiration Status Appears

When a saved app has an expiration date, License Store can show its status in the app list and in the selected app's details.

That makes expiring licenses easier to notice even before a notification arrives.

Add Renewal Context

For licenses that expire or require paid updates, it helps to keep the renewal context in the same record:

• vendor website
• download link
• notes about renewal terms, upgrade terms, or cancellation
• invoice or receipt attachment

When the reminder appears, the details you need are already in License Store.
