SideNotes 1.6 and SideNotes Mobile 1.2 Released
10 months ago, we released SideNotes 1.5.
That update introduced a new editor with hidden Markdown syntax. It was a lot of work, but most of it happened under the hood.
This release is slightly different.
SideNotes 1.6 is focused on bringing new features. Lots of them. And many of them came directly from beta feedback and user suggestions.
And this time, not only SideNotes for macOS was updated. We also have a big update for SideNotes Mobile for iPhone and iPad.

Fold and Pin Notes
You can now fold notes to reduce clutter and keep long notes compact. To do that, simply double-click the bottom bar or choose the Fold option from the gear button menu. In the bottom bar (another new thing), there is also a ... button that lets you fold/unfold all notes within a folder. And of course, there are keyboard shortcuts to control all these actions.

You can also pin both notes and folders, so important items always stay on top.

Quick Formatting Toolbar, Horizontal Separators, and Underline
Formatting got a lot faster with the new Quick Formatting Toolbar. Just select some text and a horizontal bar will appear above it. In Settings → *Notes, you can choose to display the bar below the selection, or disable it completely if it doesn't work for you.

The bar is slightly different if you select (or click) an image:

You can quickly preview the image, share it, copy it, save it to a file, or delete it.
Or a file shortcut:

You can quickly preview the file, open it, show it in Finder, share it, or delete it.
Underline, Horizontal Separators, and Clearing Completed Tasks
We also added Underline and Horizontal Separator.
Underline
You can find Underline in the Aa menu, as well as in the Quick Formatting Toolbar. You can also use the following syntax:
==underline text==
Horizontal Separator
To add a horizontal separator, choose it in the Aa menu or simply type three dashes:
---
Clearing completed tasks
Have you ever had lots of tasks, with most of them already completed? It gets messy. Now you can remove all completed tasks. Simply click the Aa menu and choose Clear Completed Tasks.
Quick Copy
Another useful addition is Quick Copy: you can quickly copy code, code blocks, links, quotes, or highlighted text with Command + click.

Completely Redesigned Settings
The Settings window was rebuilt from the ground up.
It now includes a cleaner layout, updated graphics, a better theme picker, and easier access to configuration options.
We also added more built-in themes and full font selection support.

More Everyday Improvements
SideNotes 1.6 also brings many workflow and UI refinements, including:
- Redesigned Move Note menu (with recent folders)
- Redesigned bottom bar in note view
- New bottom bar in notes list
- Better color picking in note settings
- Optional single-click folder opening
- Pinch gesture support for fold/unfold
- Right-click menu in the menu bar icon
- Better formatting when pasting text from ChatGPT
- Improved first-launch introduction
- New translations: Chinese (Simplified), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, and Spanish
And there is more. You can find all the changes in the Release Notes.
SideNotes Mobile 1.2 Is Also Here
Alongside SideNotes 1.6, we also released SideNotes Mobile 1.2 for iPhone and iPad. It's a huge update, as it introduces the new text editor that hides Markdown markup, first introduced in SideNotes for macOS in version 1.5. But there are more new things:
- Refreshed iOS 26-style interface
- Note folding and pinning
- Simpler drag-and-drop reordering
- New contextual menu and formatting options
- Additional UI polish and improvements
